Browser Extension
The browser extension lets you tune the widget on your live website and save the result to your account.
The preview on the Setup page draws the widget on a blank page. It cannot show whether the trigger collides with your cart icon, or how it sits inside your own header at 375 pixels wide. The extension can, because it mounts the actual widget on your actual site.
Install it
Download crawlbrain-extension.zip.
- Unzip it.
- Open
chrome://extensionsin Chrome. - Turn on Developer mode, top right.
- Click Load unpacked and select the unzipped folder.
The extension needs Chrome 111 or newer. It also works in Chromium-based browsers, including Edge, Brave, and Arc.
Click the extension icon and sign in. It uses the same login you already have, through the standard OAuth consent screen. Approve it once.
The extension then matches the site you are on against the websites in your account. Open one of your own sites and it mounts that site's widget automatically.
What you can do with it
Open it on your site and you get the same controls as the Setup page, in a popup, applied live to the page underneath.
- Switch placement and watch the trigger move into your header.
- Change colors, radius, padding, font size, and theme.
- Try a different button label.
- Test the search itself, against your real index.
Changes stay in the preview, and nothing reaches your account until you click Save to account. You can experiment on your live site, in front of your real header and content, without visitors ever seeing a half-finished look.
The workflow that works
- Open your site, on the page where the widget matters most. Usually the page with your search bar.
- Open the extension and pick a placement.
- Nudge the spacing until the trigger sits right.
- Set colors against your real brand, not a swatch.
- Resize the browser to phone width and check it again.
- Save to account.
Ten minutes here beats an hour of saving in the dashboard and reloading your site to check each change.
What it does not change
Save to account writes the appearance and placement settings for that website. It deliberately does not touch your content, your model tier, your starter questions, or your API keys.
Limits
- Your own websites only. The extension mounts a widget only on hosts that match a website in your account.
- Chrome-family browsers. No Safari or Firefox build today.
- Not a substitute for installing. The extension shows you the widget. It does not put it on your site for your visitors. That is still the script tag or plugin.
Updating
Download the current build from the dashboard and load it again. The download link always serves the latest version.
