Go-Live Checklist

Run these nine checks before you put the widget in front of visitors. Most of them are already done, and the whole list takes about fifteen minutes.

Five of the checks are also on video, in 59 seconds:

Before you install

1. The sync finished and found what you expected.

Open Knowledge → Website and compare the page count with what your site actually has. An order of magnitude off in either direction means something is wrong.

If the count is too low, check Sync History for blocked or errored URLs. A count far too high means you are indexing tag archives and paginated listings you do not need, and they will dilute your answers until you exclude them in Sync Settings.

2. Spot-check what got stored.

Pick three important pages, open the row menu, and choose View content.

You are looking for clean body text. If it is mostly navigation, add selectors under Exclude HTML elements. If it is nearly empty, your content is rendered client-side and you need Render JavaScript on.

This one check catches more bad launches than everything else on this page combined.

3. Ask it five real questions.

Open Search Widget → Install → Test search and ask the five questions your support inbox actually gets, rather than something like "what is your name".

Read the answers and the sources. If an answer is wrong, Troubleshooting has the fix path. It is better to find a wrong answer now than after your visitors do.

4. Exclude anything that should never answer.

Select pages like old pricing, deprecated docs or last year's campaign in Knowledge → Website and turn AI off for the selection. They stay searchable but stop being answer sources.

Set up the widget

5. Pick a placement and test the selector.

If your site has a search bar, Replace search bar makes the upgrade feel invisible, and if it does not, pick Floating button. Both are described in Placements.

Leave the CSS selector blank first and let auto-detect try. Test it on your real site before you assume it worked.

6. Make it look like yours.

Set the theme and font in Appearance, then your brand color. It takes about two minutes.

Check it on a phone as well. The browser extension lets you do both against your real site.

7. Write three starter questions.

CrawlBrain generated some already. Add your own real top three from Conversations → Searches, or from your support inbox if you have no history yet.

An empty search box converts worse than one with three obvious questions in it. See Starter Questions.

Install and verify

8. Install, then verify.

Add the script or the plugin, purge your cache, and click Check installation.

Then open your actual site and ask a question in your actual search box. The dashboard check only confirms the script is present, and using the search yourself is what confirms it works.

9. Turn on the alerts that matter.

In Notifications, turn on the low credits warning and content gap alerts, and point the notification email at whoever will act on them.

The week after

Come back on day seven and do this once. It takes ten minutes and it is where most of the value shows up.
